Stream of 11-24-09

•November 26, 2009 • Leave a Comment

The stream of Tuesday’s show is up here.

Turns out it was a good thing I recorded it manually at the station as my setup at home didn’t work. Sigh. Back to the drawing board.

Anyway, hope you enjoy and thanks for listening!

Brrr, getting cold out now. Fog is increasingly coming out and about, making the deer more like horned ninjas in the night. Got a couple of nice calls tonight. Folks liked The Swell Season. Folks listening online too, thanks :)

Have to stay late after the show to make sure I get the manual recording of the show in case my stream recording shuts down like last time. Hope I fixed the stream thing though cuz staying later with work in the morn is just not going to work. It takes almost a 1/2 hour just to export the recording and then I have to burn it. Oh well, keep tweaking the process. I’ll probably have the stream up tomorrow afternoon all going well, and I will post a link here.

I’m super excited to bring you the very first after-the-fact stream of an Amplified Mixtape show! Got some answers on somehow having the show available after the fact for folks that might miss it for the many reasons that there are to miss something in this world of worlds.

So how this will work is that I’ll post the stream of the most recent show up until the next show. It will then be taken down and replaced by the next show. And so on.

This show is a couple of shows old because like all new things there were some bugs and I only got 20 minutes of the last show. And even this stream cuts off the last three songs of the set. But it’s a start! And I’m excited as it’s something I’ve want to do for a long time, wooo progress!

Here’s the link, hope you like it :D

Ahh, what a lovely night. It’s finally getting cold round these parts. But it’s still warm-ish during the day. Thus, fog. To make the deer more cloak and dagger. I spotted five cuz they were right up on the roadway; one was big buck laying down/sleeping by the road and another a doe jogging on the shoulder. There was some fluffy unknown thing too.

Thanks Jeff and Clay for listening online (and anyone else!), got another nice phone call, and then just exactly what I like to do: listen to music.

Mwahaha, It’s Showtime!

spook

I love the fall. And I love an excuse every once in awhile to put together a more themed mix of music. Halloween is my favorite one. There’s outright connections with vampires, ghost, and the devil, and then there’s the ambiance, a more spooky feeling with the moon, the wind, falling trees, oops, I mean leaves :) Hee hee, so yeah!

Amplified Mixtape Radio tonight 10PM to midnight PST, streaming on the nebulous internet here, and the airwaves at 88.1/90.7/91.5 FM round these here parts. See ya then!

Totally awesome night! I had purchased my own stereo cord so I knew it was there, and I think it improved the sound of the tracks I played from ye ol’ laptop. Niiiice. Figured out one of the buttons wasn’t engaged to play a YouTube video for a song; love when I can figure something out :D

Got a couple of nice calls, one from Laytonville and one from the coast outside of Fort Bragg. Awwww, compliments on the show, especially the Under the Covers section, right on! Some great discussion on the changing lineup at the station as well.

The deer were spooked, taking every pain to jump in front of my truck that they could get. Ooo ooo!! And there was an owl on the road too! Alive and swooped away. So neat in the bright moonlight!

There’s something I find so lovely about putting together some tunes for radio in the fall. I’m a sucker for that gorgeous golden afternoon light spilling through my window that makes everything look like a dream. So much awesome new music coming out lately, I had to lay down the law on myself. But not to worry, I think we’ll be just fine in the music department :D

A huge part of what keeps us fine overall at the radio station is community support. Support from you. We need you to become a member of KZYX today! If you enjoy listening to Amplified Mixtape and appreciate all of the other unique programming you find on KZYX, I urge you to make a gift to the station.

We’re very lucky to have a community non-commercial radio station here in Mendocino County. One that gives a young programmer like myself the chance to play the eclectic mix of music you hear here every other Tuesday night. Me, a real live person and music-lover like yourself that loves how music brings people together and creates its own community regardless of where you are. And I’m available to you through the existence of KZYX.

Please give what you can to be a first-time supporter of show! You’ll listen differently as a supporter of the show. Power Amplified Mixtape and make it your radio too!

I urge you to make a gift to the station early, and thank you for your continued support! I’m going to miss my regular Tuesday show in a couple weeks during pledge drive as I’ll be out of town. But I will be at the station later that week on Friday evening, October 23rd, after 6pm to help power this crucial pledge drive. Give a call then, I’d love to hear what KZYX and Amplified Mixtape means to you!

It took me a long time to realize how important it is to support the services that I love and that make an impact on my day. This is one of them.

That said, tonight is Amplified Mixtape from 10pm to midnight PST. Streaming on the web here, or on your dial at 88.1/90.7/91.5 FM.

Alan, one of the programmers before mine, Ensemble, totally saved the day when a cord I needed to hook up my laptop was missing – thank you! So some initial chaos, but then it all settled in and was glorious. Really enjoyed listening to music tonight, and things seemed to fit well. Least to me. And to one other person, thanks for the phone call!! Woo!!

Otherwise, me and some dancing. Lovely. The deer have started coming back out again. Big ol’ rack dude was hanging out in the middle of the road and was not moving for anyone. Add a couple more to the siting. And a fluffity bunny.

Fooling Radio

I was looking through some photos and found these from almost two years ago to the day that were taken during an Amplified Mixtape show. The lighting makes me all yellow so I kinda feel like I’m in The Simpsons, but kinda fun :D

amplified mixtape
Almost two years to today.

Ramones at the top of the stack.

So glad they’ve taken the germ holder off the mike, ugh. Do ya like my taped paper scraps to block out the crazy millisecond counter on the CD decks? I thought you did :) I’m a technology whiz.

amplified mixtape
Stack o’ goodies on the table there, that Low 7″ again, and a Scene Creamers 7″.

amplified mixtape
The Shins near my head.

Some Electrelane and a Low 7″ in the near background.

So some visual for the audio that’ll be happening tonight. Yes tonight is some radio! 10PM to midnight PST streaming here, or 88.1/90.7/91.5 FM on the dial.

Tonight I decided to experiment with talking more about the bands and music I play. It went okay. I did actually talk more, but need to work on my ummmmmmmmm-ing and what not. But I think I have a good method worked out so it’ll just take some practice like anything.

Got a nice call from a guy in Ukiah who liked Electrelane. And another call that the Internet stream was down, so sorry Clay!!! Thanks so much for listen to what you did :D I knew something was up cuz the Internet in the studio went down about ten minutes earlier and I had to do a scramble to find another couple songs for Under the Covers as originally I was going to play a song from ye ol’ YouTube. You can listen to/watch it now if you like, it is the awesome. It all worked out though in the end. Frustrating though.

Oh, and I did a lil’ set of Daytrotter materials, as you can probably tell, to try and spread the word about this amazing resource. I enjoyed doing that.

LOTS of deer making stupid choices out there. I stopped counting after twelve because I had to concentrate more on the dodging. There was also a strange fuzzy animal, small and rather like a bear I though, but I don’t think it could have been a bear. I wonder what it was…

Soooo much radio happening tonight. Well, my regular slot, but filled with so much Jerry’s Records and Scavengers goodness that I picked up in Pittsburgh. How great is an antique store called Scavengers. Let me tell you: awesome. Especially awesome is having a friend with you that gets the records price to drop to $1 for sweet records. Sometimes putting together a show is like a scavenger hunt but you’re not sure what you want until you need it. I love that. The above is Jerry’s – best place on Earth for cheap good vinyl.

Tonight is radio, 10pm to midnight PST on KZYX&Z. Streaming here.

Quite a lively night! “Where were you when Ted Kennedy died?” “Not born yet?” I answered, and then was pointed out my tired brain mistake :D Got a call from Mendocino coast that Sen. Ted Kennedy had passed away and he gave a lead on a great song to play. I YouTubed it and played it from the computer – first time ever – and it went totally smoothly! Found and read the first couple of paragraphs from this article. It was a really cool example of what makes this community radio.

Then got a call from someone who enjoyed the Galaxy 500, something she used to listen to when she was 15, and the trippy aspect of it playing while she’s skinning a hog (or did she say pig?). So cool to hear when and what resonates with people, love it!

And guess what, another call! Lake Mendocino in the house enjoying I’m Waiting For My Man, and wanting to hear it in Russian or German. No idea on that front, but I’m sure it’s probably out there. Rock.

And holy smokes, another call! This time on the Low song – what?! Someone else in the world loves Low enough to get that random 7″ and play it over and over because it is soooo soooo good. So awesome. Gave me a lead on a kickass looking festival too, though sadly I will be outta town (though I won’t be sad to be gone to see my best gal on her b-day in Seattle, woo!!). Someday, I’ll see The Flaming Lips gawddammit!! I will touch Wayne through his giant hamster ball!! And Yo La Tengo. And Thao. *sigh*

Such a fun show, thanks to everyone for making it happen!
