Or maybe just stay inside and listen to Tuesday’s show if ya missed it <3
Birds and Guitars

I so love this! And can very much imagine the swarms and herds of birds outside my windows creating an even more intense sound than currently in play…
Listening to Budding Trees Radio
•February 2, 2010 • 4 CommentsIt’s rather amazing! Last week I was noticing the bulbs laying out their greenery, getting read for that those bursts of color that make a person feel so hopeful this time of year. Looking out my window, the trees are following suit, new leaf buds starting to color their branches. Beautiful mornings lately too. Ahh
Reminds me of this bit I read this afternoon “…if you are in love and you don’t know who you are in love with…” It’s a wonderful feeling.
So first, go watch Lost. Then listen to radio, 10 PM to midnight, streaming on the web here or on the left side of the dial here in Mendocino County, 88.1/90.7/91.5 FM. See you then <3

I loved tonight for some reason. Even with the unmentioned Turntable 1 being down again. I made it work – Thanks TIm Gunn!
Couple of awesome calls! First, the “Did you say wildlife scupltures?! I was just putting chisel to a beatle sculpture…” Love those coincidences of sharing time
And then call from a fellow programmer leaving the area – really appreciated him taking the time to let me know that the show introduced him to some new music, even though we have some dissimilar music tastes! Super cool!
Deer were out in pairs, being sly around the corners. Nice to see some familiar stars out. The air smells so good.

Some dang catchy theme music. And such a great concluding quote, good job 1958.
Born to Stream
•January 22, 2010 • 3 CommentsHere’s the stream of Tuesday’s show. It’s a tolerable mono version after I edited out the wonky hot left channel and clipped a few of the worst tech difficulties
Live radio is full of surprises!
Born to Amplified Mixtape
•January 19, 2010 • 4 CommentsBeen loving the repetitive sound of the rain, broken up by spectacular displays of thunder and lightening. Lots of lovely music has come around, much redeeming of holiday gift certificates, mixes from friends, and the fun that internet wandering brings. Dodging debris to head over for some radio tonight, 10 pm to midnight on KZYX&Z, available streaming here or at various points on the dial 88.1/90.7/91.5 FM depending where ya are. Hope to see you there <3

Stormy stormy, inside and out. The ride over was calm relative to the setup of the levels and turntables at the studio. Turntable 2 was outta commission, which means the mostly back to back LPs I had needed to be broken up. Tried to use the computer and YouTube to compensate only to encounter some crazy static. And the right/left channel levels were all outta wack. Grumble. All will be better next time, thx for listening
Took a call on a lost dog in Philo (poor pup), Laytonville calling in and enjoying the show, and some east coast appreciation, thanks!
Ready to traverse the fog and worship in my blessed bed.

Raptor Radio
•January 5, 2010 • 4 CommentsTwo amazing-for-me raptor stories. Sadly, not of the dinosaur variety though.
1) I’ve know for some time that I have a hawk living near the house. Mostly because I hear him/her. Occasionally because I catch a glimpse of a shadow soaring when I’m in the field. The other day I was sitting on my floor listening to music (doesn’t everybody *grin*) and from that angle I saw two hawks sitting in the tree next to the window. Amazing! And it was as if they had posed just so that I could identify them in my bird book. Front and back. I concluded red-shouldered and just was in awe of seeing such up-close detail of these beautiful raptors.
2) Christmas Day I was out in Redwood Valley for afternoon dinner at me ma’s house. It was a busy day for the birds in the yard so I was often looking out the window to see what was happening in their world. Suddenly a young Cooper’s hawk swooped onto a post near the massive mock orange bush that serves as a major congregation, hiding, nesting, and all-round bird central area. He proceeded to stalk the birds trapped inside the bush, worrying them by jumping from post to branch, until finally a bird tried to escape. Escaped right into the talons of the hawk and off he flew – IT WAS SO AMAZING! I had never seen this happen before, and it truly made my Christmas.
Tonight I swoop over the hill, not as sharp as a hawk by any means after a late night yesterday. But excited to listen and share music over the radio waves. Hope you can listen 10pm to midnight, streaming at kzyx.org or on the dial at 88.1/90.7/91.5 FM.

Robert Pollard and Kim Deal – Love Hurts – Love & A .45 Soundtrack
Gram Parsons and Emmylou Harris – Love Hurts – Grievous Angel
Caspar called in enjoying the harmonies in a number of the songs; it’s always so neat to hear what other people get out of the songs we listen to. It was nice to go back to some songs I haven’t listened to in a while, like the Nirvana. And I came into a few soundtracks (thx Andrew!) that were pretty dang rad.
Only one sly deer on the way over. But millions of stars shining their historic light on us. Beautiful.
Running With Wolves; My 2009 Top Ten
•December 31, 2009 • 2 CommentsI’ve read so many top ten lists lately on my RSS feeds I just can’t help but reflect on what I really enjoyed this year. I like when I see some of mine pop up on other people’s lists that way I have a frame of reference to then check out the unknowns on their lists and perhaps find something lovely and new.
In no order (maybe):
1. Thao with The Get Down Stay Down – Know Better Learn Faster
2. Lou Barlow – Goodnight Unknown
3. Yo La Tengo – Popular Songs
4. Mayer Hawthorne – A Strange Arrangement
5. The Maldives – Listen To The Thunder
6. Ryan Bingham – Roadhouse Sun
7. Generationals – Con Law
8. Girls – Album
9. Alela Diane – To Be Still
10. Floating Action – S/T
What were your favorites in 2009?
